Title of unit:  Aggression in everyday life

  

Basic idea/brief summary:

Today one can find a lot of violence and aggression in our everyday life. We want to draw the students’ attention to causes and effects of such aggressive behaviour. They get to know one basic theory of how one can explain the emergence of aggression.

 

Target group:  11th grade

  

Time frame (in lessons):  5 to 10 lessons

  

General aim(s):

-          awareness of violence / aggression

-          prevention

-          understanding of development of violence

-          what to do against violence

  

Language aims:  

-          to talk fluently

-          stylistic devices

-          understanding of theory

-          learning to apply such theory

-          learning new vocabulary

   

Resources needed:  

-          a novel dealing with violence (e.g. "Lord of the flies” by Sir William Golding  

           (1911-1993) (not absolutly necessary to read a novel in class before starting with

            this module - but it would complement this module)

-          pictures / comic strips (attached to this module)

-          short story: "The antics of 'Little Boys'" by Doug Case (attached to this module)

-          internet for research reasons (links are attached to this module)

c) translate the video in order to synchronize the characters c) creative task in groups: translating with fun character as the goal is to synchronize / perform the video scene -> translating trains grammar and vocabulary of students -> doing it in group work so students can help each other (social values)

Target group: 

9th to 11th grade (specify!)
