PROCEDURE/PROCESS
1. Pre-Task / Preparation

Activities
Reflections/Explanations

Introduction: Showing the film "Alien Invasion" (Greenpeace); brain-storming + mind map on the blackboard on the topic “Climate Changes”
Students are introduced into the topic of climate changes by a short film about aliens discussing/pointing to the wrong and ridiculous behaviour of the people living on the earth ? activation of topic knowledge

Forming of 6 groups which consist of 4-5 pupils each; the 6 groups are:

1.politicians

2. environmentalists

3. scientists

4. wind and solar power economists

5. trend scouts

6. youth representatives

(Of course, this list of possible groups can be extended or changed)

Time for the introduction: 1 lesson

Tasks

Group No 1: You are politicians who are in favour of using nuclear power. Work out a programme/an agenda you will present to the others in a following presentation.

Group No 2: You are environmentalists, as for example Greenpeace or NABU. Work out a programme for your group which you will present to the others in a following presentation.

Group No 3: You are scientists who point to the environmental changes of the past few decades. Work out a presentation of your work and the results of your research.

Group No 4: You are wind and solar power economists. Work out a presentation in which you give information about how wind- and solar driven technology functions and which advantages or disadvantages there are.

Group No 5: You are so called trend scouts. Search (for example in the web) for new ideas or inventions in favour of nature conservation, give examples of how other countries try to support it and prepare a presentation on what you have found out.

Group No. 6: You are a group of youth representatives. Think of some future inventions to avoid further pollution, for example, but also some tips how to contribute to nature conservation in everyday life. Be innovative and creative. Present your ideas to the other groups.

Finding and providing further material if necessary (=possible task for homework)
The material provided on moodleschule.de can of course be extended by additional materials researched by the pupils and/or the teacher.

2. Core activity

Activities
Reflections/Explanations

Using the material provided (and the additional material), work out an individual programme/agenda for your group. Then prepare a presentation in which you present it to the other groups in class. After this, prepare arguments you want to use in the following disputation on climate changes, which all 6 groups have to participate in.
The core activity consists of working with the internet materials provided (and the additional materials) in order to work out a presentation about the individual “programme” of their group (What are our interests? What do we do?). This shall afterwards be presented to the other groups in class (product no 1). At the end of this project the pupils are supposed to take part in a simulated disputation on climate changes in which they have to represent their group.

Working with the materials, preparing a presentation, finding arguments for the disputation

Time for the core activity: 4 lessons

3. Post task / Follow up

Activities
Reflections/Explanations

In the 5th and 6th lesson the pupils are supposed to present their results in class. In the last session they should discuss the problems of climate changes in a disputation with the other groups.
Pupils are given the opportunity to present the results of their work and to discuss current and future problems communicating with others in a democratic way.

Presenting the programme of the group in a presentation of 15 minutes; participating in a disputation using arguments in favour of the own group and its programme
Completion of the core and presentation/performance of work done in the core.

Time for the post task: 3 lessons
